HISTORY OF THE CHRISTMAS TREE

Merry Christmas! In honor of this day, we decided to share a brief history of the ultimate symbol of Christmastime - the Christmas tree!

The popularity of the Christmas tree is due in large part to the influence of Queen Victoria of England, and the picture above depiciting the Queen and Prince Albert gathered around a tree with decorative ornaments.

In 1848, having a Christmas tree was not a common practice in British homes. It all changed, however, when this image appeared in the *Ilustrated London News* that year. Queen Victoria's vast popularity was able to start a trend among her subjects. Eager to be more like their beloved Queen, the British people bought their own Christmas trees to decorate. Ever since that moment, people around the world have been displaying their own trees during the holidays, and decorating them with bright lights and shiny ornaments.
